Guardian Requirements

To be considered as a Guardian Home for one of our breeding dogs, you must:

  • Live within a one-hour drive of the greater Sacramento area

  • Have a physical fence to keep your Guardian dog safe and secure

  • Keep your Guardian dog indoors, without long stretches outside

  • Have a schedule that doesn’t leave your Guardian dog home alone for long periods

  • Never leave a Guardian female outside unattended during her heat cycle

Guardian Females

Contact us as soon as your Guardian female comes into season. A heat cycle usually lasts 14 to 21 days, and during this time we’ll need access to her for breeding-related appointments. After she’s bred, she stays home with you until one week before her due date. She then comes to Brookside Labradoodles to deliver and nurse her litter, and returns home once her puppies are fully weaned, about six weeks after birth. You’re welcome to visit her by appointment while she’s with us.

Guardian Males

Guardian males are needed periodically throughout the year for breeding. These are usually short visits.

Cost to Become a Guardian

The initial investment for our Guardian Program is $300. Guardian Home Families provide routine veterinary care and everyday wellness for their Guardian puppy, just as they would for their own dog. That means annual vaccines, a high-quality diet, regular grooming, monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention, training, daily exercise, and plenty of socialization. Most importantly, it means giving your Guardian dog all the love, care, and attention they deserve. Brookside Labradoodles covers all breeding-related medical costs, so your responsibilities are simply the routine care any devoted dog owner would provide.

Brookside Guardian Opportunities

We’re currently accepting applications for a few select labradoodle puppies to join our breeding program through Guardian Homes. If you live within a one-hour drive of the greater Sacramento area and are interested, we’d love to hear from you.

Our Guardian Home Program gives local families the opportunity to have the breeder pick the puppy. Your Guardian dog lives with your family as a beloved pet for life, while Brookside Labradoodles retains ownership and breeding rights during the dog’s breeding career. Once that career is complete, your dog is spayed or neutered and ownership is transferred to you, so they remain your forever companion.
